This study also investigated how a principal positively or negatively affects teacher motivation and student engagement. The participants for this mixed-methods research include teachers, classified staff, students, and principals. The focus of the research was two schools serving as the unit of analysis. Participants were from a stratified random sample of two Kindergarten through sixth grade elementary schools located within the same school district. The researcher conducted surveys, a student-led focus group, and a case study in the form of an interview. Descriptive questions were used to analyze the data. Results of this study are organized in five categories: community, participation/involvement, character, professionalism, and engagement. Information from this research study provides a deeper understanding to the impact created by a school principal. As the site leader, he or she needs to provide opportunities to listen, understand, and value important stakeholders. By doing so, principals can help with establishing a positive school culture. Results of this study indicated the impact of a principal on school culture to create an environment of change has major significance on the ultimate view and feeling amongst stakeholders.
